Many of the questions went without a straight answer, most questions turning into an argument among the candidates. I didn't feel like I came out of the debate with any new knowledge, just a list of things I wanted to fact check for myself. Not only was it disappointing from a political standpoint, but I had to spend three hours questioning how Donald Trump had a child. A woman had to let that crusty orange man into her bedroom one evening. I kept wondering if the politicians were ever going to talk about politics, or continue to simply shout low blows out to their fellow candidates and expect the jab to answer the question for them. Once the blows were dealt, then the issues were addressed. However, they were more often than not addressed as a defense instead of an expression of opinion. The way the candidates handled the questions was unprofessional and very much felt like like a piece of theater and entertainment. Donald Trump was acting as an entertainer that night, not a potential president of America. Very few candidates exhibited presidential qualities, instead showing aggressive and argumentative sides of themselves. Looking forward to the Democratic debate and hoping for more professionalism. I'm also hoping to see Bernie Sanders drag Hilary Clinton. Professionally, of course.
Last night's debate was heated, long, and featured a large number of candidates. I came in to that debate not knowing what to expect, as I have never sat down to watch a debate before. And within the first few minutes of the debate, it became surprisingly argumentative, with the candidates abandoning some levels of professionalism and instead directly attacking the other candidates. Not an hour into the debate, one of the candidates was speaking to the Iranian Nuclear Deal, and claimed he would "Rip up the bill", something that the president does not have the power to do. When laws and bills are passed by Congress, the president does not have the power to revoke said laws or bills. Christie, I believe it was, made a false claim just to appeal to the audience. A large portion of this debate was appealing to the audience, which leads me to believe that this was a piece of political theater rather than a serious political debate. This debate is a serious event and is a vital part of the presidential elections, but the way the candidates handled each question and each direct verbal attack was unprofessional and didn't reflect a positive image. Trump continually interrupted the other candidates just to loudly exclaim that he didn't say something, that they were wrong, or other. He had no respect for the others, and they didn't exhibit any respect, either. The most professional candidates were Fiorina and Carson, who addressed the questions in relatively professional tones and never made obvious and loud points to interrupt other candidates.

As well as Nick- I also find myself baffled by the immature behavior of the majority of candidates. As Ms. Duncan had never seen a presidential debate, I myself found myself in the same boat as I sat down to watch the CNN Republican debate. I tended to find myself confused as I was listening for answers to the proposed questions but, as Ms. Duncan stated, I found most of the candidates to be beating around the bush. This specific debate entailed more a ComedyCentral Roast connotation than that of a presidential debate. I am curious if the Democratic debate will be of the same nature or if the Democratic Candidates will be able to display a higher degree of professionalism. Additionally, I am also curious regarding your thoughts on improving the nature of future debates.
