MY NINTH GRADE EXPERIENCE
I came into Animas very scared of the whole situation; a classroom full of loud, moving bodies; time limits; exhibitions; public speaking. I was not used to being around people, so the situation was also very new for me. As the year progressed, I got over all of my fears and I can approach my classmates without being too scared. I feel that's a really big step for me. Along with that, my writing and art skills have improved so much. I have gotten much better at math and physics, along with many other skills I gained here at Animas and will be able to apply to real world situations. If at the beginning of the year I knew I'd turn into this person I am today, I wouldn't believe it for a second.
How My Student Led Conference Affected My Education
Preparing for my SLC was fairly easy, since I keep all my papers inside of my bag. However, it was hard trying to find all of the papers within that mess! After I had organized all of my evidence, it was a breeze from there. I was stressed out about it at first, thinking it was going to be hard, and that I would have trouble with it. From then, I've been saving to tell my parents the details about my school work until the next SLC, so I have plenty to cover and update them on. After the SLC, I felt a sense of ownership over all of my work. I felt proud of all that I had done, and it was real to me that I had done all of that work in such a short time. I'm ready for when the next SLC rolls around.
