At last it is Friday, and I'm feeling the Friday vibe. I had a lot of fun this week seeing the transition between projects happen. The students were definitely ready for the change, cleaning our their binders and soaking in the new knowledge about Henry Ford and other concepts in Brave New World. It was a lot of fun being able to see them absorb this knowledge that I remember absorbing my freshman year. I loved seeing how they got a greater understanding of the first chapter than I ever had at first.
This week, I learned a lot about the organic process of learning. I realized that you can't force the knowledge, but you can help push it as it goes along. Asking questions, seeing if they can explain the concepts to you, and chatting with them about the book and concepts can help them understand it. Some of the students are verbal processors like I am and they benefit from talking through their thought process, and I thought hearing them sort it all out was very insightful and exciting. While the days may drag on slowly since I'm not doing a whole lot, it's a very insightful experience to see the classroom evolve from an objective point of view.
